Matthew Lillard

Words can't express the love that I have for Matthew Lillard, he is the love of my life, my everything and obviously my favorite actor.

Who is Matthew Lillard

Matthew Lillard is an american actor who is best known for his roles in Stu Macher in Scream (1996), William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy's (2023), and Shaggy Rogers in the live action Scooby Doo as well as becoming the voice actor for Shaggy after Casey Kasem's retirement.

I had definitely consumed Matthew Lillard content before this as a fan of Scooby Doo but I truly became aware of Matthew Lillard 4 years ago when I watched Scream for the first time and laid my eyes on Stu Macher. I took one look at that silly little guy and decided that he was everything I wanted to be and exactly what I as a concept wanted to be percieved as, just a big, silly, guy, endlessly and homoerotically devoted to their person

Throughout the last year my obsession with Stu Macher ended up spreading to Matthew Lillard himself and here we are today where I make a shrine about him and call him my babygirl.

Ranking of his Movies

I'm currently, and slowly, making my way through Matthew Lillard's entire filmography so here's my ranking of the movies based on the quality of the movies themselves and also a little blurb about his performance within the movie.

Stu Macher

Scream

Scream is one of my favorite movies of all time and Stu Macher is definitely a factor as to why I love that movie so much. Stu is just a silly guy who's hopelessly devoted to Billy Loomis and I couldn't ask for a better portrayal of the character. He makes stupid puns, makes dramatic gestures, and he's just a little dude, what more could I want.

Stevo

SLC Punk!

In SLC Punk! Matthew Lillard plays the punk that's narrating the whole movie and explaining the Utah punk scene to us, Stevo. Stevo is a character who feels like he understands everything about the world at the beginning of the movie but has the foundations of his beliefs rocked and struggles to come to terms with what he should do with his life in response. Although I don't love the conclusion at the end, I really love the journey that Stevo goes through throughout the movie and outside of his character arc Stevo is just a really fun character. He's very passionate about everything going on in his life and is proud on who he is and he's a little silly just like all Matthew Lillard characters are

Tim-Curve

Dead Man's Curve

The Curve or Dead Man's Curve is a 90s thriller where Matthew Lillard plays a college student who kills his roommate and frames it as a suicide in order to get a 4.0 GPA. He's part of a duo who commit this crime together but Lillard's character, Tim, is clearly more invested in it and is significantly more deranged. He spends the whole movie manipulating everyone around him in order to control the narrative and attain his ideal life regardless of who he needs to get rid of and you really have to respect the hustle because he puts in so much legwork in order to ensure that his plan works out. Tim is such an asshole but you really come to love him throughout the film and this has to be one of my favorite characters done by Matthew Lillard.

Brock Hudson

She's All That

She's All That is a classic 90s romcom and Matthew Lillard plays the side character Brock Hudson in it. Brock Hudson is a washed up reality tv star who spends all his free time rewatching his clips from the show he was on. At first they introduce him as some sort of cool guy but as he continues to appear throughout the movie you realize pretty quickly that he's a massive loser and I absolutely loved him.

Tim LaFlour

Senseless

Senseless is a 90s comedy and Matthew Lillard plays the main character's roommate, Tim LaFlour. Tim is great, he's got a ton of facial piercings, a dick piercing, vows to give up earthly pleasures at the beginning of the movie, gets convinced that the main character is doing heroin, arches his back for no reason in one scene, and plays hockey. He truly is the epitome of a silly little guy and Matthew Lillard's portrayal of the role is honestly aspirational.

Very Muppet Christmas

Very Muppet Christmas has Matthew Lillard playing a very minor role but it's a big one in my heart. He plays an angry french artsy director who is trying to direct the muppet's christmas show in the beginning before he is ultimately fired. He's loud, he screams about art, he made a strange interpretation of a christmas carol as the big intro to the show and he was just a funny dude that I wish had more screen time in this movie

Hackers

In Hackers, Matthew Lillard plays a side character whose screen name is 'Cereal Killer' and what more is there to want. The costuming department hit it out of the ballpark with Cereal because I loved every outfit they put him in. He ends up delivering the speech that saves the day at the end of the film and he looked damn good doing it to

William Afton

Five Nights at Freddy's

Five Nights at Freddy's puts Matthew Lillard back into the horror antagonist role as William Afton. As a really big FNAF fan I think Matthew Lillard knocked it out of the park with this one. William Afton starts the movie as just a silly, unassuming man hiding under the name Steve Raglan but once he is revealed to be William Afton the gloves come off and he is so scary. The way he talks and moves in the springbonnie suit is so cool and his death at the end was my favorite part of the movie, Matthew Lillard did such a good job.

He's All That

Matthew Lillard plays a minor role in He's All That as the principal of the high school the characters are attending. He's just a dude who doesn't understand teenagers and constantly complains about how much people are on their phones these days. This isn't my favorite role, in fact it's really easily my least favorite, but he has a funny joke here or there
